The IV Moscow Corporate Venture Summit: the fifth element of the venture capital market

On 8 February, the IV Moscow Corporate Venture Summit will take place. The event, organized by NP "Innovation and R&D Directors Club" (iR & Dclub), is a leading Russian platform, which brings together key experts in the field of corporate innovation and investment.

The development of the domestic market of corporate venture capital investment and the challenges that arise in the process will form the agenda of the annual summit. Today, according to the organizers, the most pressing is the problem of finding a mutually beneficial co-operation between corporations and created an innovative ecosystem in the country. The summit will be the "fifth element", which will provide a corporate dialogue with the development institutions, universities, venture capital funds, accelerators, business angels, and start-ups. This will come up with concrete solutions to improve the efficiency of innovative development of both large companies and demand in structures of the ecosystem.

The speakers of the summit will present the range of opinions on the current issues of innovation development. This year, among them — Oleg Fomichev, the State Secretary — Deputy Minister of Economic Development of the Russian Federation Kirill Varlamov, director of the Foundation for the Development of Internet Initiatives (FRII), Evgeny Kuznetsov Deputy General Director — Program Director of RVC, and Alexander Gorny Director for strategy and analysis at Mail. Ru Group, Andrei Zyuzin, Managing Director of VEB-Innovations Foundation, Alexey Germanovich, a Member of the Board of Directors of Aeroflot PJSC, Alexander Kashirin Deputy Chairman of the Scientific and Technical Council of the State Corporation Rostec, representatives of public and private corporations.

New formats have been selected for the most productive discussion of the key issues: the participants will be able to take part in the analysis of case studies of colleagues on the market, identify the barriers hindering the development of enterprise innovation, and to form a solution to overcome them. Thus, the emphasis is placed on the practical results of the work.

Discussion of key issues of innovation activity of corporations have been brought to a new level within the framework of the Summit. In particular, in the track named "Human Resources for Change", the system of market motivation corporate employees will be discussed in the implementation of innovative projects, because the traditional tools in the form of bonuses and premiums do not give the desired effect. Moreover, various possibilities of interaction with universities will be considered , for example, as an external education partner of the corporation.

During the track "Innovations are born in companies" the role of the board in the innovative development is planned to be discussed: whether it can become a driver of innovation and what is required for this. Also, the speakers will offer their vision of empowering practice of Russian enterprises selection of spin-off companies, will discuss cooperation of start-ups and corporations, will identify the barriers hindering the process of mergers and acquisitions of technology companies.

Questions of choosing the most effective tools to work with will be considered under the third track of open innovation — "Setting the external ecosystem to support corporate innovation." What to prefer — your own R & D or acquisition of start-ups from the open market? Are there any opportunities for growing start-ups by order of the companies?

Within the framework of the Summit, the results of two studies will be presented. RVCA (Russian Venture Capital Association) will tell about the current situation on the venture investment market. The Odgers Berndtson Company will present a study of the R & D-engineer profile commissioned by the program "Elevator to the Future" of the "System" Charity Foundation. The study provides answers to particular questions: how to prepare such a specialist? Do Russian standards of training comply with the world ones? What is employers' opinion about the quality of training of engineers and whether they find understanding in our universities? Also, the specialists of consulting company Deloitte will share their view on the global changes taking place.
