More than 4,000 start-ups claim to participate in GenerationS-2016

GenerationS — the largest in Russia and Eastern Europe start-up accelerator from RVC sums up the collection of applications. In 2016, the accelerator received 4,237 applications from technology entrepreneurs, which is 65% higher than in 2015. The geography of GenerationS projects covers more than 250 cities and 30 countries, including Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Ukraine, France and the United States. All projects of the contenders will undergo preliminary examination, after which the best teams will have many opportunities for business development and investment, including access to resources and infrastructure of the largest Russian partner corporations of GenerationS.

Geographically, only 14% of the total number of applications in GenerationS-2016 are presented by the projects from Moscow. The majority of applications were received from entrepreneurs from different regions of Russia. Among the most active cities were Irkutsk (421 application), Ufa (230 applications), Yekaterinburg (212 applications), Tomsk (195 applications) and Samara (190 applications).

Enrolment to GenerationS-2016 was held by eight corporate tracks. The most popular among start-ups became the direction of creative entrepreneurship, smart production technologies and "smart city" technologies. Applications by industry areas were allocated as follows:

— 647 applications — Creative Industries: new media, entertainment, fashion, design, and social entrepreneurship. The track Co-organizer: The National Chamber of Fashion. Corporate Partners: Sher Oston, AMEDIA. The track operator: MT by Maria Tikhonova.  
— 593 application — TechNet: projects in the intelligent production and systems, additive technologies. Corporate Partners: NPO Saturn, Rostelecom, PJSC The track operator: Start-up Samara.  
— 590 applications — SmartCity: projects in the field of "smart city" and new urban planning technologies. Corporate Partners: GC Morton, Russian Technical Company. The track operator: RusBase.  
— 504 applications — AgroBioTech&Food: projects in the field of high technologies to improve the efficiency of agriculture. Corporate Partners: GC EFKO, Open University Skolkovo. The track operator: KubGTU.  
— 456 applications — LifeScience: the development of new drugs, diagnostic systems and technologies in the field of digital medicine. Corporate partner: BPhC Nothern. The track operator: Xi Ventures, LLC  
— 352 applications — Finance & Banking Technologies: projects in the field of financial technologies, services and e-commerce. The track Co-organizer: The Bank of Russia. Corporate Partners: Moscow Exchange, QIWI, Visa, VTB 24, FG BCS. The track operator: RIS Ventures. 
— 306 applications — Power & Energy: solutions in the field of energy and development of personal sources and energy storage devices. Corporate partner: Irkutsk Electric Grid Company, OJSC. The track operator: "Lermontov — innovations." 
— 251 applications — Mining & Metals: new technologies in the processing of precious metals and mining. Corporate Partners: Krastsvetmet JSC, ALROSA. Operator: Innovative infrastructure UrFU. 
— 538 projects have not decided and they will be distributed on the tracks until 7 November.

Among the applications for GenerationS-2016, the number of projects in the early stages of development is dominating: 39% are represented by pre-seed projects (1,636 applications), 26% — seed stage projects with a working prototype (1,104 requests). The remaining applications were received from teams with projects at the stage of expansion and growth. At the same time, 300 teams of bidders to participate in GenerationS-2016 already have first sales and commercial production. Before submission to the federal accelerator, 45% of teams had been trained in the regional acceleration programs. Fourteen per cent of teams in 2016 became the participants of the Regional sessions of practical consulting — educational intensives, which are annually organized by RVC for young technology entrepreneurs in the regions of Russia.

More than 4,000 talented technology entrepreneurs are willing to develop their business with GenerationS. More than 15 Russian companies have chosen GenerationS as a platform for the implementation of their innovative programs and 8 infrastructure partners have decided to design a program of acceleration for the objectives of these corporations. More than 70 regional RVC partners throughout the year help in searching for and preparation of projects for GenerationS," says Gulnara Bikkulova, the Deputy Director General of RVC and ideologist of GenerationS, "Only together we will be able to change, grow and achieve new results every day.

After examination of all the applications received, the acceleration of projects in GenerationS-2016 will be held in two parallel streams. About 500 start-ups of early stages are in for Preaccelerator, a series of online and offline activities aimed at finding a business model and prototyping. BootCamp will be held for more than a hundred projects of later stages participating in GenerationS from 18 to 21 November 2016, after which the best teams will be selected in the corporate accelerators. Participants of accelerators will undergo an intensive program of development based on GenerationS partner-corporations and will be able to launch joint projects in the future. The GenerationS Final will be held in March 2017, the prize fund of which will amount to 15 million rubles. The best projects will receive grants from the Innovation Support Fund, a partner of GenerationS for development within the EGGHEAD and START programs.

Until 15 January 2017, GenerationS will also continue to accept applications for participation in the special categories of accelerator partners. Vilnius Tech Park — a global partner of Generations-2016 — selects the best start-ups, which are ready to expand into the European and US markets. The winners will receive a special certificate, which gives the possibility for relocation and legal support of the project, as well as work space in Vilnius Tech Park, as well as mentoring and marketing support.

For finteh start-ups special Raiffeisen Award nomination is organized by Raiffeisenbank, the winner of which will receive a financial bonus of 1 million rubles. Telecom start-ups can apply for nomination Gars Telecom "New Telecom for smart business." The winners will receive investment from a corporation-partner and infrastructure for the development of the project. The SAP Company will continue to accept applications for participation in "Tomorrow begins today. Innovative technologies and solutions for business." SAP will issue a special prize to three winners of the category — The Training Course "Internet of Things in Action", which will be held in the new SAP Training Centre.

GenerationS is the largest accelerator of technology projects in Russia and Eastern Europe and the first federal platform for creating and developing corporate acceleration tool work. It has been held by RVC since 2013. Twelve accelerators have been conducted during this time.
