RVC and I.M. Sechenov First MSMU (Moscow State Medical University) entered into the Cooperation Agreement

A pilot model of the Technology Transfer Center in Biomedicine and a venture fund will be set up at the University.

RVC and I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University (I.M. Sechenov MSMU) signed a Cooperation Agreement and a Roadmap to implement the Agreement for 2016-2018. The documents were signed by the General Director of RVC Igor Agamirzyan and the Rector of I.M. Sechenov First MSMU Petr Glybochko at the Forum "Innovation ecosystem: universities and scientific organizations" that was held on 21-22 April in Moscow in partnership with NUST MIS&S and Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation.

The purpose of the Agreement is multi-faceted development of partnership aimed at support of high technology entrepreneurship, creation of the efficient service infrastructure, building of transparent financial mechanisms to support innovation business. Implementation of the Agreement should ensure innovation development of medical, pharmaceutical, biotechnological and relevant areas of Russian economy.

The main Agreement Roadmap directions for 2016-2018 will be educational, innovation, entrepreneurship, information and consulting activity.

In particular, the Technology Transfer Center in Biomedicine will be created as a part of innovation and entrepreneurship activity at I.M Sechenov First MSMU. The main objective of the Center is establishment of the efficient model for commercialization of innovation medical and pharmaceutical technologies. Besides, necessary conditions will be created to set up a venture fund at I.M. Sechenov First MSMU.

Educational activity under the Agreement includes development and implementation of educational seminars and master-classes for medicine and pharmaceutical start-ups, joint educational programs of advanced training and professional re-training of highly qualified staff and internship programs for young entrepreneurs in the leading innovation centers globally.

As a part of information and consulting activity, support will be provided to institutions, organizations and companies in respect to issues related to technology transfer and commercialization of intellectual activity results, including through the use of capabilities of RVC venture funds and RVC Seed Investments Fund. I.M. Sechenov First MSMU will also participate in organization of the GenerationS federal technology start-ups accelerator that has been held by RVC since 2013 with support of the Russian companies, development institutes and representatives of venture infrastructure.

Development of innovation in medicine, biotechnology and pharmaceuticals is one of the priority lines of business for RVC. In this respect, the Agreement with the I.M. Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University has strategic meaning for us, Evgeniy Kuznetsov, Deputy General Director, Program Director of RVC noted. Implementation of joint programs together with the university will ensure inflow of investment in the sector, facilitate entrepreneurship initiative, streamline the process of commercialization of scientific developments and launch of the much-in-demand and high technology products on the market.

In 2015, our university became a participant of a program for increase of international competitive ability. In this respect, one of the key priorities, as we see it, is development of science and innovation activity. In order to compete with the leading world-class universities, we will create an efficient innovative ecosystem that will ensure creation of the much-in-demand medical and pharmaceutical products and services starting from an idea and up to a final product, i.e. getting of the complete development and integration cycle. Cooperation with RVC will contribute to setting up of the instruments at our university, namely, of our own venture fund to implement not only our own considerable scientific potential, but to become a specific center for transfer of the best developments from all over the country to the global market, Petr Glybochko, Rector of I.M. Sechenov First MSMU said.
