Lenta and GENERATIONS selected retail startups to launch pilot projects

Project:  Corporate accelerators for technology startups GENERATIONS

GENERATIONS, a platform for the development of corporate innovations from RVC, and Lenta, the largest hypermarket chain in Russia, summed up the results of the selection of international start-UPS in the field of retail. The best teams will implement paid pilot projects on the company's infrastructure, will receive consultations on localization of products in the Russian market and will be able to continue long-term cooperation with Lenta.

At the pitch session, 15 international teams presented to the management of Lenta their innovative solutions in the field of automation and improvement of operational efficiency, marketing, logistics and supply chain, as well as new services for customers.

According to the results of seven prospective projects have been selected by the expert jury for detailed assessment. The Lenta team will discuss potential cooperation with them. If there are business cases, startups will have the opportunity to conduct paid pilots and further long-term cooperation with the company.

Among the selected projects — a solution for navigation in stores, an application for customers with personal prices and the ability to pay from the phone, innovative material for the cooling system in online delivery, technology to prolong the freshness of products, innovative packaging for its own production, a robot for positioning goods of its own brand, and others.

Vladimir Sorokin, General Director of “Lenta”
A comprehensive search for international startup projects is a new experience for our company. We hope that the selected projects will prove the stated hypotheses in the course of the pilots and will be able to increase the efficiency of our company's processes. We, in turn, are ready to provide methodological support to prospective teams and help them adapt to the Russian market. In the future, we will continue to search for solutions in foreign markets.
Ekaterina Petrova, Director of corporate accelerator GENERATIONS from RVC
The success of any accelerator is measured by the number of pilots implemented by the company. It is this rule that guides us in the search for innovative solutions for our partners. Sometimes it is not so easy to find the “right” project that will be suitable for all parameters, but thanks to the developed foreign innovation ecosystem and the pool of our partners, we were able to collect interesting international projects in a short time and present them to the experts of “Lenta”. The pitch session identified the startups that will continue their journey with the company directly into the pilot phase. We believe that the tests will be successful, and international projects will be able to get a reliable partner in the person of one of the largest retailers in Russia, and “Lenta” — to increase its competitive advantages in the market.

In total, more than 270 applications were collected as part of the first international selection of projects for “Lenta”, including 65% of teams from Europe, 18% — Israel, 10% — Asia and 7% — the USA.
