Competition RVC, ASI, and the Skolkovo Foundation launched the Up Great series of technological contests for developers of artificial intelligence. The purpose of the competition is to create universal artificial intelligence that will be able to analyse natural speech, solve problems, and learn together with a person.
The modern level of machine learning technologies allows you to create systems that solve narrow tasks well, such as building a route on a map, playing a game, processing a narrow list of voice commands. Nevertheless, the creation of more universal systems is limited by two factors: computer performance and the level of development of machine learning methods.
The Up Great contest is designed to stimulate the development of new approaches that will allow the creation of AI capable of deep analysis of the meaning of a text and causal relationships on a wide range of topics. The advent of such technologies will improve the interaction between a computer and a person, create tools for effectively solving a wide range of intellectual problems.
The ability of AI to analyse human speech and to interact meaningfully with it will be tested in a competition by the example of identifying factual, semantic, and logical errors in texts, unreasoned statements, inappropriate comparisons. To win, artificial intelligence will have to cope with this task no worse than humans. During the competition, participants' programs will need to analyse and find errors in several hundred essays and essays, and the decision on each AI text should be made in no more than 30 seconds. This level of word processing has not yet been achieved in the world.
The competition will last until the end of 2022. Tests will be held regularly until one of the teams shows a result that exceeds the ability of a person. Competitions will be organized separately for texts in Russian and English. The winner of each contest will receive 100 million roubles.
According to a joint study by RVC and Frost & Sullivan, in 2018, the market for processing natural language and products based on it was estimated at $8 billion. By 2025, it will grow to $40 billion. The main players in the market of natural language processing technologies at the moment are the leading technology giants such as Google, Amazon, Facebook. In Russia, the leading developers of such solutions are Yandex, ABBYY, Sberbank, Tinkoff, MIPT (iPavlov project), etc.
The Up Great technology contests were initiated by RVC, Skolkovo Foundation, and ASI for innovative Russian companies as part of the National Technology Initiative. Participants are invited to find solutions to the most complex technological problems, which in the world so far have no solutions. The winning team that overcomes the global technological barrier receives a large cash prize for demonstrating a clear and repeatable solution to the competition task to experts, the jury, and the public. Competition mechanics are developed in accordance with the best practices of world technological competitions: XPrize, Darpa Grand Challenge, etc. The operator of the Up Great technology contests is RVC.
