More than 10 thousand schoolchildren from 387 cities of Russia applied for participation in the Olympiad of the National Technology Initiative (the NTI Olympiad). Accepting of applications from the participants will last until October 30, 2018.
Applications were received from 387 cities; the most prominent number came from Novosibirsk. Second place took St. Petersburg, and Moscow comes third. Schoolchildren from Izhevsk, Chelyabinsk, Krasnoyarsk, Yekaterinburg, Ufa, Kazan, Murmansk, Lipetsk, and other cities are also planning to take part in the first engineering team competition in Russia.
Even though the solution of engineering problems traditionally attracts young men, among the first applicants for participation in the Olympiad, are 37% of girls. Most of the future participants are students of grades 10 and 11.
The NTI Olympiad is a unique format of engineering competitions for schoolchildren of 7-11 grades aimed at identifying and developing talented children who can solve complex interdisciplinary tasks. Victory in the NTI Olympiad gives advantages for admission to leading technical universities. The winners of 13 out of 19 profiles will receive 100 balls in physics, mathematics, biology, chemistry, computer science or geography in the Unified State Exam.
An essential advantage of the NTI Olympiad is the ability to save the scores received and use them directly in the year when the student enters the university. For example, a student in grade 10 will be able to take advantage of the result of victory when coming after grade 11.
To acquaint schoolchildren with modern engineering areas, from September 2018, an “NTI Lesson” appeared in Russian schools. The lesson is designed for schoolchildren of glades 8-11. The program includes materials explaining to high school students what the National Technology Initiative is, what challenges it faces, and what specialists the NTI markets will require.
Also, to make it easier for students to choose the direction that is most suitable for them, the Last Lesson mobile game was developed, which is available to all VK users.
RVC and ASI have held the NTI Olympiad in partnership with the most significant Russian universities and technology companies since 2015. The profiles of the Olympiad correspond to the industry priorities of NTI — the program of Russia's global technology leadership by 2035.
