First Big Data National Standard Put Up for Public Comment
The first national standard for big data technologies has been put up for public comment, Russian Venture Company (RVC) reports in a statement.
The standard establishes terms and definitions of basic concepts in the field of technologies for working with big data.
“The use of such technologies is relevant in the telecommunications sector, banking, energy, healthcare, and other industries. Without the use of large arrays of accumulated data, it is impossible to develop artificial intelligence technologies, new production technologies, build digital doubles for smart industries, and create smart cities,” the report says.
The standard will help to ensure mutual understanding between government bodies, commercial companies, and the scientific and educational community, and promote unity of perception of information. The national standard is identical to the provisions of the current international standard.
Draft standard “Information technology. Big Data. Review and Dictionary” was developed by the National Center for Digital Economy, Lomonosov Moscow State University, Institute of the Information Society. Technical Committee 164 “Artificial Intelligence”, created based on RVC, prepared and submitted it for public discussion.
“Today, technologies for working with big data have reached a high level of maturity. Their application brings tangible effects in various sectors of the economy and areas of the social sphere. Standardization of development processes and use of technologies for storing and analyzing big data makes it possible for us to share best practices, use approaches and solutions that have proven successful both in Russia and around the world,” commented the chairman of the board of directors of the Institute for the Development of the Information Society, the head of the working group on large according to the technical committee Yuri Khokhlov.
