RVC and ASI organize the NTI Olympiad in association with the largest technical universities and corporations. Its goal is to search and develop talents for the National Technological Initiative, a program to create fundamentally new markets and ensure global technological leadership in Russia by 2035. The Olympiad is held in 17 educational profiles that correspond to the industry priorities of NTI. Among them there are unmanned vehicles, large data and machine training, robotics, nanotechnology, small space vehicles, biotechnology, etc.

In 2018, as many as 20,000 schoolchildren from all over Russia claimed to participate in the competition". As a result of qualifying rounds, 578 participants reached the finals. Around 360 of them were invited to the final on-site stage in the first 9 profiles of the Sochi Olympics, which took place in the format of team engineering competitions. Within the framework of the finals, high school students worked on solving specific technological problems. The participants of the "Space Systems" profile had to assemble the operating model of the microsatellite, contestants in the profile of "Neurotechnology" developed a control system for the bionic prosthesis of the brush, and the finalists of the "Nanotechnology" direction modified the bacteria for the production of the plasmid — the ring DNA molecule, so that it could be embedded in living cells and change their properties.
According to the results of several days of the competition, 11 best teams and 18 winners of the NTI Olympiad in individual competitions were chosen. The final place of the contestants was determined by the results of the subject tour and the team's place in the rating of the profile. The winners by the total number of points were schoolchildren from St. Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Snezhinsk, Kaliningrad, Tula, Blagoveshchensk, Tambov, Nefteyugansk, Tomsk and Moscow. The profiles of the NTI Olympiad are included in the official list of the Olympiads of the Russian Council of School Olympiads (RCSO). Hence, the winners and prize-winners will be able to enter the organizing universities without exams or receive additional points upon admission.

In his opinion, the history of WorldSkills can prompt the right way: first it's a competition, then the emergence within the framework of these competitions of successful practices, with the help of which it is possible to formulate new educational standards. They will become mandatory in the nearest future for the entire education system.
The final stages of the remaining eight profiles of the NTI Olympiad will be held in March-April 2018 at the sites of partner universities in six Russian regions, from Vladivostok to St. Petersburg.

The NTI Olympiad was launched for the first time in 2015. Among the organizers of the competitions are Moscow Polytechnic University, SPbPU, TPU, University of Innopolis, MIPT, NNIU MEPhI, MAI, ITMO University, FEFU, UrFU, SibSU named after M.F. Reshetnev, MISiS, MSTU named after N. E. Bauman, and SKFU. The partners of the NTI Olympiad also include Sukhoi Company, UAC, Rosnano and other Russian corporations that participate in the development of tasks for schoolchildren. The beginning of the next cycle of the NTI Olympiad 2018/2019 will take place in September 2018.
