The Contest's Commission of the Russian Ministry of Education and Science has designated six competence centers for the National Technological Initiative (NTI), which will be based at universities and scientific organizations in Moscow, Moscow Region, St. Petersburg and Vladivostok. These centers will be supported with government grants. The total amount of federal money, which will be allocated for NTI competence centers from 2017 to 2020, will be equal to 7.8 billion roubles. On behalf of the Russian Government, the Russian Venture Company (RVC) was entrusted with monitoring the activities of the centers. This is what RVC has revealed to Firrma.
Among the grant recipients are the NTI сenter of artificial intelligence, located at MIPT, the center of quantum technologies located at the Lomonosov Moscow State University, the competence center of new and mobile energy technologies, located at the Institute of Problems of Chemical Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the NTI Center "New Production Technologies" located at St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, the technology center for managing the properties of biological objects, located at Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the NTI Center of Neurotechnology, Virtual and Augmented Reality located at FEFU.

With the moneys received, the selected centers will carry out comprehensive R&D activities, organize measures to ensure legal protection and to manage rights and protection of intellectual property, launch educational programs aimed at developing the competencies, which are vital to NTI markets, and prepare measures to develop NTI infrastructure in terms of information, science, technology and innovation.
In terms of four "end-to-end technologies" ("Technologies for processing and storing big data ", "Distributed ledger technologies", "Sensor technologies and robotics components production", "Wireless communication technologies and the Internet of Things"), the contest's commission has suggested that an additional competitive selection should be held in 2018 .
It should be reminded, that recently RVC has announced the launch of a new venture fund worth 3 billion roubles to finance NTI projects. The unit will start its activities with the selection of the management company, which will happen in March, i.e. in the second quarter of 2018.
