The “Tech in Media” competition is designed to encourage and give an impetus to journalists and mass media engaged in exposure of innovation processes in Russia. The competition also helps to attract attention of public to technology development issues in Russia and to peculiarities of the financial mechanisms of the venture market, enhance prestige of scientists and popularize cases of successful commercialization of scientific developments.
The “Innovation With the Eyes of Journalists” competition was established by RVC in 2011. Its format includes federal selection of the best works in five nominations and their expert evaluation. In 2014, the competition was re-launched under a new brand - Tech in Media, adopting ideology of the same-name educational project for journalists implemented by RIA "Novosti" with support of RVC in 2013. The competition Board of Trustees was headed by the Nobel Laureate Sir Richard Roberts which was announced by him at the Tech in Media Awards’14 ceremony conducted on the first day of the “Open innovation” forum.
In 2016, Tech in Media will retain the familiar features. The competition is divided into thematic areas; educational activities are planned in the regions, special programs are scheduled for the winners and laureates of the thematic stages. However, this year the organizers set themselves new challenges that must be addressed in order to spur the development of science and technology journalism in the regions.
Thus, the key challenge of 2016 will be the expansion and strengthening of journalist community. That will be implemented by building a network of experts on key technological directions as well as by the development of professional competencies of competition participants. It is planned to divide the educational program into two streams - a unit for young journalists and a program of special events for professional authors aimed to introducing them closer to competition subjects. The purpose of this work is to form a pool of journalists professionally covering the issues related to development of new technologies and new markets in Russia and all over the world.
Professional staff and freelance journalists, and registered central and regional mass media - TV channels, radio stations, printed media with any broadcasting frequency, Internet media, Internet TV-channels, mass media issued by universities as well as Internet blogs are invited to participate in the contest.
